Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yavuz Balcı
Cardiovascular Surgery Specialist

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Yavuz Balcı was born in 1969 and is originally from Trabzon. He graduated from Perşembe Vocational High School for Hotel Management and Tourism and began his dream medical career by gaining admission to Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine. After completing his specialization in Cardiovascular Surgery at the same university, he worked for one year at a private hospital in Adana.

In 2003, Dr. Balcı started working at Dr. Siyami Ersek Training and Research Hospital. He left this position in 2019 and worked at Medistate Kavacık Hospital’s Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic until 2023. During this period, he performed many minimally invasive heart surgeries and achieved the distinction of being the first in Turkey and globally to perform Ozaki and Bentall surgeries using a minimally invasive underarm approach.

Throughout his 19-year specialization period, Prof. Dr. Balcı has performed thousands of adult heart surgeries. He has specialized particularly in Ozaki surgery, small-incision (minimally invasive) heart surgeries, mitral valve repair, closed coronary bypass, and underarm valve surgeries.

Achievements and Groundbreaking Works

In 2021, Prof.Dr. Ahmet Yavuz Balcı became the first in Turkey and the world to perform the Ozaki surgery using a minimally invasive underarm approach. In 2023, he achieved another milestone by performing the Bentall surgery with the same minimally invasive method. These accomplishments have contributed to the global medical literature, and he continues to provide training on the Ozaki method in Turkey.

International Experience and Contributions

In 2007, as part of the European Union Leonardo da Vinci Project, Dr. Balcı spent two months as an observer at Paris Henri Mondor University to learn endovascular surgery techniques. During his tenure at Dr. Siyami Ersek Hospital, from 2008 to 2011, he was involved in establishing several heart surgery centers in Anatolia and Northern Cyprus.

Academic and Professional Memberships

In 2019, Prof. Dr. Balcı received the title of Associate Professor in the field of Cardiovascular Surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Phlebology Society, the National Society of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, the National Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the National Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, the National Society of Cardiology, the Turkish Medical Association, and the Physicians’ Rights Association.
